6 Reasons Why Sharks Are Afraid Of Dolphins

When we think of a species that rules the seas, most people will probably conclude with sharks. They are big, they are evil, they have good teeth and we are taught from an early age to avoid them and leave them alone.

To everyone's surprise, there is a type of animal that lives in the sea and scares sharks: dolphins. We tell you why.

Dolphins Have Better Mobility

Dolphins have a horizontal tail fin compared to a shark's vertical. This means that they have better mobility up or down. Combine this with their more flexible joints and there is almost no situation where a shark can outrun a dolphin.

Dolphins hunt in pods

While a shark may be physically stronger than a dolphin, dolphins always travel in a pod and will defend a member of their pod that is attacked. One on one, a dolphin may not stand a chance, but a shark cannot hold its own against a dozen dolphins.

Dolphins Are Smarter

Not that sharks are making it incredibly difficult for dolphins, but dolphins are some of the most intelligent creatures (if not the most intelligent) to roam the oceans. When it comes to tactics, sharks always lose.

Dolphins Are Battering Rams

Dolphins have a genetically engineered snout to act as a battering ram, which can do a lot of internal damage to sharks when they hit them in their soft underbelly.

Orcas Are Also Part Of The Dolphin Family

And orcas are known to eat great white sharks when other foods are in short supply. I guess you could say killer whales are the true largest predator in the waters.

Dolphins are faster

Despite already having greater mobility and a larger brain than sharks, dolphins are also faster in the water than the sharks that would try to catch them. This leads to easy regrouping with the rest of the pack to dominate through large groups.
