Is a Third World War possible?

Since last February Putin decided to invade Ukraine, there have been many voices that have announced the possibility that we are facing the Third World War. So far, the conflict has not crossed Ukraine's borders, but has come perilously close to the country's border with Poland.

Regardless of the geographical aspect, the possibility that the Russian invasion of Ukraine transcends to other levels and involves more countries is a proven fact and that every day seems closer, given the escalation of the war by Putin and the failure of the negotiations of peace.

The fear of another great war

Ever since the possibility of Russia invading Ukraine began to be talked about, the fear of a Third World War dominated the news, talk shows and news portals. Added to this is the possibility that the conflict will lead to nuclear or bacteriological bombs, which would complicate an already delicate situation.

The US president himself, Joe Biden, has expressed his (so far) intention not to participate in the war being waged on Ukrainian territory, since he assures that a hypothetical intervention by NATO countries would trigger the Third World War.

A latent risk

Something similar was said days ago by Anton Gerashchenko, a well-known adviser to the Russian Government and a collaborator with its Ministry of the Interior, as well as the country's own Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov. The latter also assured that in the event of the third great war in little more than a century, it would be nuclear and highly destructive.

There are many voices crying out against the end of violence and military intervention by the Putin government. The possibility of the armed conflict spilling over Ukraine's borders and involving more countries only raises the fear that the situation could only get worse and cause more damage and destruction.

The risk of nuclear war that has the whole world in suspense

Ukraine is not part of NATO and its intention to do so has been one of the reasons that has unleashed Putin's madness and his decision to invade the country. Taking this fact into account, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization that has been talked about so much in recent weeks has no obligation to come to the aid of the invaded country, but, of course, they cannot let Russia get away with it either. without doing anything about it.

Most world leaders are aware of the danger of going to war with Russia, since the country's weapons potential is well known, especially with regard to nuclear weapons. And, at the same time, we all know the risk that a possible attack of this type would pose to humanity. It would be an unprecedented disaster, which would undoubtedly mark a before and after of life as we know it up to now.

Although the direct intervention of NATO troops has been rejected at all times, the area is closely monitored and the leaders are following the situation with great concern and interest. At the same time, more and more countries, including Spain, have shown their support for Ukraine by sending not only all kinds of humanitarian aid, but also weapons to defend themselves against Russian attacks.
